Stephen Coffey, President – Coffey Real Estate

Stephen Coffey 2Stephen grew up in Sanger and is a graduate of Baylor University.  As Principal of Coffey Real Estate he has been active in real estate for over thirty years and holds a Texas Real Estate Broker’s License.  Being involved in community organizations and giving back to the Sanger Community comes natural to Stephen.  His parents, Joan and Jesse Coffey, led by example volunteering and serving as Sanger School Board Trustee and on a variety of national, state, county and local service organizations.  Stephen served as a member of both the Administration and Investment Committee since 2008, joining the Board of Directors in 2011 at which time he served as Vice President of Administration and Chair of the Administration Committee. Stephen holds Board positions on Serve Denton, City of Denton Human Services Advisory Commission, City of Denton Citizens Bond Advisory Commission and is the current 2015-2016 Board President of the Sanger Education Foundation.

Dr. John Gage, VP Administration – Gage Dental

John GageDr. Gage graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry-Texas A&M University Health Science Center in 1998Since a public-health project at Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Gage has embraced bringing dental education to every student in Sanger ISD.  Since then, Dr. Gage and his staff have seen children in school districts across North Texas, giving him a very special perspective to teachers, staffs and kids. Dr. Gage believes that children are our future, and they grow up entirely too fast.  Dr. Gage donates countless volunteer hours at numerous schools,  community events and community organizations.  Dr. Gage is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, President of Sanger Project Graduation and has served on the Sanger Education Foundation Programs Committee since 2011. He became a Foundation Board of Director in 2013. In 2014 Dr. Gage joined the Administration committee.  Currently Dr. Gage is Vice President of Administration and Chair of the Administration Committee. Dr. John Reed, VP Development – Sanger Family Dentistry

John H Reed Jr DDSDr. Reed grew up in Sanger and graduated from Sanger High School in 2002.  Dr. Reed attended Texas A&M University in College Station where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Science. Dr. Reed graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry, a component of the Texas A&M Health Science Center, in Dallas. After dental school, Dr. Reed had the unique opportunity to participate in a post-doctoral training program at the Veteran’s Administration in Temple, TX. In this advanced education program he received extensive training and experience in surgical procedures, implant rehabilitation, and IV sedation.  In 2011, Dr. Reed opened Sanger Family Dentistry, just down the street from where he attended high school. The scope of his practice includes preventive and routine dental care for patients of all ages, surgical procedures, and implant surgery and restoration. Dr. Reed has served on the Investment Committee of the Sanger Education Foundation since 2012 and has been on the Board of Directors since 2013. Jack Biggerstaff, VP Programs – Educational Consultant/Former Superintendent

Jack BiggerstaffJack Biggerstaff was the Foundation’s Founding Superintendent who was one of three who lead to the formation of the Sanger Education Foundation.   Jack joined Sanger ISD in 1979 as a teacher and athletic director, became an assistant principal in 1985, principal in 1987 and then Assistant Superintendent for school services in 1993. He left the district in 1995 to serve as Superintendent for Callisburg ISD before returning to Sanger to serve as Superintendent in 1999. After thirty-five years in public school education with twenty-seven of those years working for Sanger ISD, Jack entered into retirement in 2010, stepping down as Sanger ISD Superintendent, noting “I will forever cherish the personal relationships that were forged during my tenure. The reason why Sanger ISD is so special is the dedicated people who work here.” In 2010 Jack agreed to join the Board of Directors serving as Vice President of Programs and Chair of the Programs Committee.  In addition he volunteers with Serve Denton and is a member of the SWEAT Team volunteering countless hours giving back to the citizens of Denton County.  He maintains his passion for Education by working as a Consultant at Region 10 Education Service Center. 

Dee Dee Peterson,VP Community Relations – Secretary – DATCU Credit Union 

DeeDee1Dee Dee is a lifelong resident of Sanger graduating from Sanger High School.  Dee Dee began her career in Banking in 1995 and has been at DATCU since 2005.  She is a graduate of Southwest CUNA Management School and is Vice President of Branch Operations overseeing daily operations of 10 branch locations throughout the North Texas area.  She serves as a volunteer for United Way of Denton County and Interfaith Ministries Apple Tree Project. In 2013 Dee Dee served as a committee member of the Community Relations Committee and moved to a Board of Directors position in 2014.  Currently she serves as Board Secretary and Vice President of Community Relations and Chair of the Community Relations Committee.  For more information about DATCU visit: DATCU.org


Dennis Dillon, VP Investment  – Treasurer

DennisDillonDennis grew up in Northeast  Arkansas graduating from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in accounting in 1970. He retired in 1995 from Moore Business Forms and began a small business accounting and bookkeeping service.  Dennis has lived in Sanger since 2005.  He is an active member of he Sanger Community, serving in capacities at his church, Sanger Planning & Zoning Commission and the Sanger Lions Club.  He joined the Sanger Education Foundation in 2014 as a member of the Investment Committee, joining the Board of Directors in 2015 as VP Investment and Treasurer. Dennis will tell you that living in a small community such as Sanger, it has been easy to see the difference the foundation makes for the children of Sanger ISD.  


Clay Akers, At-Large,  First United Bank

Clay AkersClay Akers joined the Sanger community in late 2014 to serve as the community president for First United Bank. Prior to the move, Clay served in various capacities related to commercial and agricultural lending in Texas and his home state of Indiana. Clay holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana State University, a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an M.B.A. from Texas State University. A life-long learner, Clay is passionate about helping others continue to develop themselves, especially in the areas of leadership and personal finance. He frequently speaks to classes of Sanger ISD students and community groups about financial well-being. Jeff Springer, At-Large -Springer/Lyle, Attorneys at Law

Jeff Springer is a practicing attorney at Springer-Lyle Law firm. He has taught law as an adjunct Headshot 2014-1professor at both UNT and TWU. Jeff stays active with his family, church and community.  He regularly teaches youth Sunday school at First UMC Denton and has served on a number of charitable boards and in other leadership positions. Jeff was passionate in sharing his vision and insight with two others leading to the creation of the foundation.   His leadership lead to developing an exploratory steering committee establishing the original Founding Board of Directors in which he served as Founding President until 2010. In 2011 Jeff served as Vice President Administration until 2012.  After a two-year break he returned to the board in 2015 and loves how the Foundation allows him to spread his enthusiasm for Sanger’s educators and children. Brad Isbell – At-Large – Eikon Consulting Group, Inc. 

EikonCGBrad Isbell was born in Valley View, Texas and received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering from Texas A&M University. Upon graduation Brad Isbell joined his family’s Sanger based business in 2001. Currently he serves as president of EIKON Consulting Group, an Architecture and Engineering firm providing services in the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. He has been President-in-Charge for large, multi discipline projects involving the coordination of sub-consultant teams with diverse stakeholder participation.  His expertise is in structural engineering with project experience including structural modeling, building assessment, construction administration, site observation, and complete project management. Project experiences include the fields of education, sports, governmental, commercial, and healthcare. Dr. Allen Coffey – At-Large – Plastic Surgery Center of North Texas

Dr. Allen CoffeyDr. Coffey a proud graduate of Sanger High School, graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1984 completing both his general surgery residency and his Plastic Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine, widely regarded as one of the best Plastic Surgery training programs in the country. In 1993, he served a year as a Microsurgery Fellow at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Coffey is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as the American and Texas Medical Associations, and the Denton County Medical Society. Dr. Coffey served for 8 years as a Captain in the Medical Corps, US Army Reserve.  Dr. Coffey began his private practice in Denton, Texas in August of 1994. Dr. Coffey is also involved in his community. In addition to the Sanger Educational Foundation, he serves on the Flow Memorial Foundation.  Dr. Coffey also works with a church in Denton, traveling to Mexico where he does reconstructive procedures on underprivileged children and adults with birth defects.

Valerie Foster, Foundation Executive Director

VF PhotoValerie was one of three who envisioned the formation of the foundation and was instrumental in the organization and development of the Sanger Education Foundation and brings over 25 years of experience in non-profit fundraising.  In 1999 Mrs. Foster was chosen as recipient of Heroes for Children for contributions and dedication to public education by The State Board of Education.   She was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Sanger Area Chamber of Commerce in 2005 and again in 2013.   She is an honorary Member of both the Rotary Club of Sanger and Lion’s Club. Most recently Valerie was awarded the 2014 Spirit Award as a Heart and Hero’s Recipient for her non-profit work in Denton County from Health Services of North Texas. Since 2012 Valerie serves on the Texas Education Foundation Network Conference Committee and holds memberships with TSPRA and NSFA.
